Piano Lessons For Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Students:

Repertoire and Teaching Materials I Use For Beginners

I use all of the following methods for theory and technique: Alfred’s Basic Piano Library, Helen Marlais’ Succeeding at the Piano, Faber’s Piano Adventures, and the Carol Matz Piano Method.

Repertoire may include student/teacher duets on familiar folk tunes such as Yankee Doodle, arrangements of classics and pop tunes – I like to have students playing actual music right away rather than simply playing drills and exercises.

Music and Materials for Intermediate Students

We use Scales, Chords, & Arpeggios by Bastien and selected etude books by composers like Burgmuller and Kabalevsky.

Repertoire may include classics from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern time periods, and we also include Broadway and pop music as well. You will learn to fake music through chord knowledge, play new age piano such as David Lanz or Yiruma, and enjoy jazz piano, like the music of Vince Guaraldi.

Advanced Piano Lessons in Bucks County

With my advanced piano students, I like to use The Virtuoso Pianist, Hanon’s technique book, as well as etudes by Czerny or Heller.

Repertoire may include Bach fugues, Mozart sonatas, Beethoven sonatas, Baroque dances, Debussy’s Claire de Lune, Listz’s Liebestraum, and many others from the standard repertoire of piano literature. At this point in your pianistic career, your input on repertoire is always welcome.

Students Who Transfer Into My Studio

Are you joining Cosgrove Studio after moving on from another school? If you are happy with your current method book and repertoire list, we can keep working with them so you won’t lose momentum. As always, I will keep communication open with you so we can play music that you enjoy.

Piano Lessons For All Ages in Bucks County

Lessons For Kids and Teens

Children need to be engaged in lessons if they are going to learn how to play, and I try to make lessons fun and interactive as much as possible. Of course, gimmicks never replace substance in my lessons, although I do look for opportunities to use games, “off the bench” activities, and other learning experiences. Children in my studio play music out of reputable method books, and we start introducing music from the piano repertoire as soon as possible.

Your child will learn to read music, play by ear, play with their hands together, and more – I’m always happy to chat if you give me a call.

Teens, whether beginners or experienced pianists, require a slightly different approach. I’ll never make your high schooler feel like a young child in lessons, and I will work with them to incorporate music they want to play or prepare them for other extracurricular activities at school and in the community.

Piano Lessons for Adults in Bucks County

I’ve helped adult beginners and advanced amateurs reach their goals on the piano, and I’d love to work with you too. Perhaps you’re deficient in sight reading, or you’ve never quite gotten the technique down to play Chopin. Please let me know what you want to accomplish on the piano, and we’ll work together to make it happen! Adults often want to increase their social circle through piano lessons, or find a new activity when they retire. We’ll work on classical, rock, or pop depending on your interests, and my primary goal is to help you enrich your life through music.

Are you ready to start piano lessons? Send me an email or give me a call – I’m sincerely looking forward to hearing from you.

We will use a mix of both piano teaching curriculum and music regardless of your level; I like to have children play tunes on the keyboard as soon as possible, and if you’re an adult, you’re probably excited to start working on your favorite pieces or tunes.
